RHÉDEY PALACE
History of the Rhédey Palace
The Palace was built by Count Rhédey Gábor in 1858. The building with its tower like elements represents well the gothic, late romantic architecture. With the death of Count Rhédey Gábor in 1897 the male line of the family became extinct and the palace was inherited by Rhédey-Herglotz Erzsébet. In 1908 Count Almásy (I) Imre, Lord Lieutenant of Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok County purchased the palace, in 1925 Almásy (II.) Imre, a year later Baron Vay (II.) László (Lord Lieutenant of Bihar and Hajdú Counties and Debrecen free royal city) became the possessor. The Rhédey Palace was nationalised in 1945, in 1951 an elementary school was formed within its walls, and then in 1958 it was declared protected.
